Boys and girls in need of care and protection:
The Overstrand Child & Youth Care Centre – the only one of its kind in the Overberg – is a registered residential home for the care, education and re-socialization of boys and girls in need of care. There are currently 26 children between the ages of six (6) and fourteen (14) years at the Centre.
The overall aim of the OCYCC is to protect the interests, well-being, safety and development of children within the context of family and community and to safeguard the rights of the children. Various opportunities are given to the children to develop a balanced outlook on life.
Funding
We are in the process of extending and upgrading our facilities – the extent of which is largely determined by the success of our fundraising activities. As a registered Youth Care Centre with the Department of Social Development we receive a subsidy, but it, however, cover about half our expenses. We therefore need to deal with shortfalls by applying for funds and assistance from a number of different sources.
Into the Future
Alternative residential care for abused and neglected children, such as provided by the Overstrand Child & Youth Care Centre, is and will continue to be a necessity in South Africa for decades still to come. As with any ordinary household, we require basic living and maintenance products. Please visit our Wish List page for a more complete list of needs or make a donation if you want to contribute financially.
We like visiting with friends and making new ones. You are welcome to come visit us in Kleinmond. Our buildings are situated next to KAWS (Kleinmond Animal Welfare Society) behind the Clinic and Child Welfare.
