Annual Family Day Event

– 26 September 2019

We are updating all our followers on some exciting news that occurred in the lives of the children at OCYCC.

Rather than simply defining family by a dictionary definition, each individual should look to define a family by his own standards, enriching the dictionary’s definition. You can have several families in your lifetime, even several families at once, if you choose. Regardless of how you choose to define your family, whether it is traditional or unique, your definition is of the family unit that works for you. As the saying goes, “Family is what you make it.” Whether made of blood relatives, friends, or pets, or a combination of these, your family can offer you the support you need to thrive.

As an institution rendering support, love and care to abused, vulnerable and neglected children and families, our main focus for the future is for children to be reunified with their families. Children leave their family homes – everything and everyone that they are familiar with to be placed in an institution for further support and care. In almost all these cases, children are forced out of their comfort zone.

The saddest part of children being removed, is the fact that they have to be strong and courageous when they should just be children. They are supposed to be loved, valued, appreciated and kept safe. They are not supposed to go through the heartache and pain experienced by their caregivers. In addition, the facility hosts an annual Family Day Event to assist the families in getting together and having fun with each other. It serves as an excellent way to get everyone bonding and laughing with each other. This is also in support of family reunification – which is our ultimate goal in any social services agency.

This year, on 26 September 2019, OCYCC had their annual Family Day Event which had a very positive turnout in family and friends. We celebrated love, family and togetherness – which in turn had a very good impact on our children’s overall emotional well-being. With many uncertainties in life, parents who struggle to become better and have a lot of challenges with addiction and abuse, our children relish these moments where they can be their awesome selves amongst their own people. They broke out in dance and song and everyone participated in every single activity presented that day. Even those who could not participate in the physical activities, left us with a beautiful song or message.

To all our sponsors – regulars and occasional, a HUGE THANK YOU! The thank you will never be big enough! You have no idea how heartwarming and comforting it is to know that we have these people looking out for our kids. We appreciate every single thing you donated and shared with us on that day. We could not have done it without you! Our sincere appreciation and thanks to all our attendees! All our family members who came – mamma and daddy looking very well and happy for their kids. It was truly amazing!

We honestly cannot wait for next year to celebrate this lovely event again. It brings butterflies to our bellies and makes us so excited.

Yours sincerely,

OCYCC Staff and Children 🙂
